Australia, welcome to Mexico!

So my biggest complaint about the wealth of food possibilities available here is the absolute lack of Mexican food. I have yet to pass a Mexican restaurant and a girl needs good nachos now and then. So tonight, I made my own nachos. The grocery store didn't make it easy, there is a severe deficit of cheddar cheeses (mostly only parmesean or other white cheeses), corn chips are only sold in the Mexican section (not in the general chip population), and guacamole doesn't exist (but you can buy $5 avocados). It wasn't quite the same as La Fiesta, but it will do.

  1. I ate Mexican for lunch! Yum.
The thing I missed most when I was in SE Asia was good cheese, so I feel your pain.

  2. Shirin - I guess the Asian influence here has transcended the cheese assortment as well :(

Tamar - I need you to get over here and make me food. You do it better.

  3. Just a follow up, I talked to a native yesterday about my desire to find good cheddar cheese for my nachos and he said "you can't find it because we don't dye all our cheeses, our cheddar is white - it's supposed to be white!"

Not sure if that satisfies me but I thought it only fair to add an Aussie perspective. :)
